The Zamość Academy of Culture (Zamojska Akademia Kultury) and the „Senso” Film Club warmly invite you to the Connoisseur’s Cinema (Kino Konesera) film screenings. After the summer break, on 3 September 2026 at 6:30 p.m., we present BITTER CHRISTMAS (Amarga Navidad). The film has everything audiences love about Pedro Almodóvar’s cinema: passion, intense colours, subversive humour and full-blooded characters who defy simple patterns.
The screening will take place in the cinema hall of the Zamość Academy of Culture, 2nd floor. Entrances are on 8 Akademicka Street and on Pereca Street (lift available).
The film’s heroine is Elza (Bárbara Lennie), a woman in her forties. After her mother’s death, she throws herself into work and doesn’t allow herself to grieve. Only a panic attack forces her to stop and set off on a journey that becomes a confrontation with her past, lost relationships and unfulfilled desires. From chance encounters, emotional twists and intertwining lives, Almodóvar weaves a story about how memory, fiction and desire constantly rewrite our lives.
BITTER CHRISTMAS is a special gift for those who grew up with the Spanish master’s films, from „Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown”, through „All About My Mother” and „Talk to Her”, to „Volver”, „Broken Embraces” and „Pain and Glory”. It’s also a film that goes one step further: it shows even more strongly that each of us not only lives our own story but also endlessly tells it to ourselves. Here Almodóvar makes a moving declaration of faith in the power of cinema, memory and storytelling.
