At the Zamość Illustration Centre, a new exhibition dedicated to the works and poetry of Father Jan Twardowski is now open.
“Old-fashioned poems that move us today”
JAN TWARDOWSKI – poet, prose writer, priest, and pastor.
The Art Exhibitions Office – Zamość Gallery decided to join the stream of events commemorating the 100th anniversary of Father Jan Twardowski’s birth by organizing the 31st International Illustrators’ Open-Air Workshop in Zwierzyniec in 2015. In 2026, the 20th anniversary of Fr. J. Twardowski’s death will be observed.
Jan Twardowski – the most popular Polish religious poet, whose phenomenon goes beyond literature. His poems and prose are treated as pastoral messages and guides to good living. He astonishes with his way of seeing the world, with the uncommon obviousness of paradoxical observations and unexpected conclusions. He avoids pathos, especially when addressing sacred themes. He is a poet appreciated even by skeptics. He speaks to the reader in a language that surprises with its bluntness, precision, and simplicity.
Exhibition authors: Adam Bańkowski (Zamość), Joanna Hrk (Łódź), Marianna Jagoda (Gdańsk), Mikołaj Kamler (Warsaw), Zbigniew Kołaczek (Żyrardów), Serhij Michnowskij (Ukraine), Irina Novikova (Russia), Ewgien Piczykiewicz (Ukraine), Dariusz Piekut (Zamość), Zuzanna Orlińska (Warsaw), Piotr Rychel (Wrocław), Magdalena Wosik (Wrocław), Magdalena Żmijowska (Kraków).
